Toy and Book Drive -- Bring Items Today

Posted on Dec 19 2016 - 1:08pm

Greetings Troop 301,

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Please remember that I will be collecting NEW AND UNWRAPPED toys and books for my toy and book drive during this week's meeting and the following one. Just find me during any point of the meeting and give me your item. Also remember that I am doing this drive to give presents to those who are not as fortunate as we are and cannot afford Christmas gifts. I hope that you all contribute.

Rescheduled: June 24-26 (Fri-Sun): Canoeing Campout

Posted on Jun 15 2016 - 6:22pm

An outfitter will supply boats and get us on the Rappahannock River. They will then pick us up on Sunday and return us to the start point. The Rappahannock sounds really nice with lots of great views and cool camping spots. Most all of the river's edge is protected land or private property, so the scenery will be fantastic.

July 16-23 (Sat-Sat): Goshen

Posted on Jun 5 2016 - 8:45pm

It's time to register for our summer adventure at Goshen’s Camp Marriott (7/16-23).

The discounted fee of $360 is available if we get your payment by April 10. As an extra incentive, everyone that pays by April 10 gets a free Goshen ball cap. While the fee includes all meals, it does not include the $45 round trip bus transportation option. We recommend the bus since Goshen is 3.5 hours away. You can pay for camp and the bus in one check. Checks can be passed to us at a Troop meeting. Please make checks out to "Troop 301 BSA." (Fees increase to $400 between April 11-May 15 and to $440 after May 15.)

Feb 26-28 (Fri-Sun): Quantico Marine Base Campout

Posted on May 9 2016 - 1:04pm

Troop 301 will be camping at Quantico Marine Base on the weekend of Feb 26-28.  The program details are still being worked but hopefully include:

1.      An advance tour of the Marine Corps Museum before it is reopened in March after its renovation.

Mar 18-20 (Fri-Sun): Assimilation Campout

Posted on May 9 2016 - 12:57pm
The annual Troop 301 Assimilation Campout will take place from 18-20 March at the Camp Wilson Group Camping Area (Site C) at the Pohick Bay Regional Park in Lorton, VA.  This annual event is the first campout for the new scouts (those that will be crossing over in March) and is designed to facilitate the new scouts’ transition from the Pack to the Troop.  The older scouts (2nd year and above) will leave St. Mary’s School parking lot and travel to the park and make camp on Friday.  On Saturday the 1st year scouts (those who crossed over in 2016), will arrive at the campground around 9am.  The focus of the campout is fusion of the 1st year scouts into the troop following the patrol method.  Older scouts will teach the 1st year scouts using the EDGE method and will cover topics such as campsite set up, cooking, knots, first aid, patrol method familiarization and others.  Following a full day of fun filled activities, we will focus on a scout prepared dinner and campfire.  An adult orientation session is planned for Saturday morning, so all current and new adults are welcome to come learn how Troop 301 implements the BSA program.  On Sunday we will break camp at approximately 10:00am and return to St. Mary’s School parking lot.  Scouts should be available for pick-up around 11:30.  All Scouts will participate in organizing the Troop Trailer and gear prior to being released from this event.

The permission slip, hold harmless agreement, and a check for $15 (made out to BSA Troop 301) should be returned to me by Monday, March 7th.

Meet at the school at 5:30 p.m. for a 6:00 p.m. scheduled departure. Remember that we travel in field uniform (class As).     Meals - bring bag lunches for Friday night. For those purchasing food for meals, please remember that we have peanut, tree nut, and seafood allergies in the Troop, so please avoid those ingredients in items purchased. All patrols should have their meal assignments - if you do not, please contact your patrol leader ASAP (and feel free to CC the SPL).  Please remember to account for the nine new Scouts in your planning if your patrol is assigned to cook for them. We may have precipitation Saturday night, so pack accordingly - please refer to the attached packing lists, and remember layers, no cotton, a hat for sleeping, and rain gear.

Leave the electronics and cell phones at home - there is no need for them, and Troop policy is that they do not come on trips. The ASMs do not want to have a competition as to who can confiscate the most.
